A New Year: a new, improved, promise that Scottish independence will magically make us all richer.

A New Year but the same old story: Scottish nationalists will trot out any old nonsense if this will a) rally the SNP’s core vote and b) offer the illusion that Scottish independence will magically transform Scotland into a land of milk and honey.
We have been here many times before.

People remember that in 2014 the Independence White Paper promised us we would be £600 better off. When that didn’t transform things they upped the figure to £2,700. In the closing days of the referendum, they dialled it up to £5,000. Nicola Sturgeon’s Growth Commission offered us £4,100.
